Customs duties and taxes in Spain

• Spain applies EU customs rules; parcels are cleared by the Spanish tax agency's customs department (Aduanas). Import VAT (21% standard rate in Spain) is due on every parcel from the first euro.
• For consumer orders up to €150, VAT can be collected at checkout through the EU's Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS). Marketplaces such as Etsy or Amazon usually do this and give you an IOSS number to put on the shipment; otherwise the recipient pays VAT and a carrier fee on delivery.
• Since 1 July 2026 the EU charges a flat €3 customs duty per item on parcels under €150. Goods in free circulation in Turkey keep their customs-union preference: with an A.TR movement certificate, eligible parcels are exempt from this duty.
• Above €150, normal EU duty rates apply — but industrial goods from Turkey with an A.TR certificate are generally duty-free under the EU–Turkey customs union (agricultural products are treated differently).
• The Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla are outside the EU VAT area: parcels there are handled as exports with their own local taxes (IGIC in the Canary Islands, IPSI in Ceuta and Melilla).

Address format for Spain

• Spanish postcodes have 5 digits; the first two identify the province (e.g. 28013 Madrid).
• Canary Islands postcodes start with 35 or 38, Ceuta with 51 and Melilla with 52 — check them before shipping, different tax rules apply.
• Write the floor and door after the house number (e.g. Calle Mayor 5, 3º B).

Restricted items and product rules for Spain

• Meat, dairy products and most plant products (seeds, live plants, fresh fruit) cannot be sent to consumers in the EU.
• Toys, electronics and cosmetics must meet EU product-safety rules (e.g. CE marking for toys and electronics, an EU responsible person for cosmetics).
• Medicines, alcohol and tobacco products have their own import rules — check with the carrier before shipping them.
• Businesses that put packaged products on the Spanish market, including online sellers abroad, have to register in Spain's producer registry for packaging (extended producer responsibility).

Documents for your shipment

• Prepare a commercial invoice with a clear description, quantity and value for each item.
• Use the correct HS code (GTİP) for your products — wrong codes are a common cause of customs delays.
• Add the recipient's phone number and email; carriers use them to arrange delivery and customs payments.
• Import duties and taxes are usually paid by the recipient, unless the shipment is sent duties-paid (DDP).
