Customs duties and taxes in the UK

• The UK has its own customs and VAT rules since leaving the EU. For goods worth £135 or less sold to UK consumers, 20% UK VAT is charged at the point of sale by the seller or marketplace, and no customs duty is due.
• The government confirmed in July 2026 that this £135 duty relief will be removed by October 2028 at the latest; after that, customs duty will be due on low-value parcels too.
• Above £135, import VAT and any customs duty are collected at the border, usually from the recipient with a carrier handling fee.
• Under the UK–Turkey trade agreement, goods of Turkish origin can qualify for preferential (often zero) duty with a valid origin declaration.

Address format for the UK

• UK postcodes have two parts separated by a space (e.g. SW1A 2AA) — the full, correct postcode matters more than the county, which can be left out.
• Write the house number or house name before the street (e.g. 10 Downing Street).
• Northern Ireland follows some EU goods rules; check the postcode (BT…) when shipping there.

Restricted items and product rules for the UK

• Meat, dairy and most plant products are restricted for personal imports.
• Products for UK consumers must meet UK product-safety rules (UKCA or CE marking where required).
• Knives, offensive weapons and some e-cigarette products are banned or age-restricted.

Documents for your shipment

• Prepare a commercial invoice with a clear description, quantity and value for each item.
• Use the correct HS code (GTİP) for your products — wrong codes are a common cause of customs delays.
• Add the recipient's phone number and email; carriers use them to arrange delivery and customs payments.
• Import duties and taxes are usually paid by the recipient, unless the shipment is sent duties-paid (DDP).
