Customs duties and taxes in Dubai & the UAE

• The UAE charges 5% VAT on imports.
• Customs duty is generally not charged on consignments up to about AED 1,000 (the GCC low-value limit); above that, the GCC common tariff applies (5% for most goods).
• Dubai and the other emirates follow the same federal customs rules; free zones have their own procedures for business shipments.

Address format for Dubai & the UAE

• Most UAE addresses have no postcode: write the building or villa number, street, area/community and emirate (e.g. Dubai Marina, Dubai).
• A nearby landmark helps the courier; a P.O. Box alone is not enough for courier delivery.
• A UAE mobile number (+971 5…) is required — couriers arrange delivery by phone or WhatsApp.

Restricted items and product rules for Dubai & the UAE

• Alcohol and pork products are banned or strictly restricted; religious publications and items that conflict with local laws may be confiscated.
• Medicines, supplements and cosmetics may need approval from the national food and drug authority.
• Electronics with radio transmitters (e.g. drones, walkie-talkies) can require a type approval.

• Prepare a commercial invoice with a clear description, quantity and value for each item.
• Use the correct HS code (GTİP) for your products — wrong codes are a common cause of customs delays.
• Add the recipient's phone number and email; carriers use them to arrange delivery and customs payments.
• Import duties and taxes are usually paid by the recipient, unless the shipment is sent duties-paid (DDP).
